Prelim evaluation

What went well:

  • The title sequence was great as we put all the names and titles in the correct order, this means that when we are editing the real opening.
Our Match cuts went well as it fit well and there weren't any jumpcuts

  • the school bell at the beginning of the preliminary was a good choice for sound as it fits well with our idea of a film including students and the film title being students.

What went bad:

  • I think the the sound after the school bell just went awry as the jazz music didn't fit with the whole idea of the preliminary and the speech was out of time with the shots, such as you can hear the people talking before the people actually move their mouths.
  • before the sound of people talking comes on there was a blackout which is bad because it means the film wasn't edited properly or looked over to correct any mistakes.
What to improve on for our actual opening:
  • Sound - Make sure it is in time with the film, make sure it fits in with the piece and not random music.
  • Editing - Make sure there are no jump cuts, that it all fits together perfectly.

Ideas about sound and editing

During the Christmas holidays I had watched Requiem For A Dream - Directed by Darren Aronofsky, I was  really moved by that film but until a few weeks ago I didn't realise how it could help us sound wise. The music composer for the film is Clint Marshall and he has a track that is a really famous song associated with the film, the song is called 'Lux Aeterna' which a heavy but light orchestra sound which is great for a build up of a film such as the build up to the climax. I found this song really great for our film opening as I think it can inspire us while using soundtrack pro or if the exam board allows it, to actually use the song. Anyways its a great song and is used throughout the film to create tension, which is what the group wants!! Requiem For A Dream is an indie drama film so it cant really inspire us with the thriller side of our film but it does contain some psychological bits in it which can help me with my character. The film itself has rapid cuts throughout so it can also inspire us editing wise.

Planning - Pitch

Here is a presentation of our pitch

Planning - Locations

this place would be good for filming as the character could be  walking along this pathway during the evening which would work good with the street lights
We visited areas around london, here are pictures of the areas we went to and why we think it would be good

Add caption

the character could stop here at this abandoned garage to think and it could be good to work with

this is a very clear place which could work well with filming

Planning - Target Audiences

We have decided that our target audience will be a mix of females and males from the ages of 15-18. We think that this is appropriate as there will be scenes of violence so people under the age of 15 may not like this and people over the age of 18 may not enjoy it too, as they may think it is only suitable for teenagers. Both genders may like this film as it can appeal to all and isn't orientated to just one type of gender.

Research - Title order

Title Openings for Psycho:

I decided to look through title openings for the film Psycho just so I could become more comfortable with the order that the titles go in, also so I could get an idea of how my group would want our titles to enter the screen for our opening whether it would be discrete or not.

Psycho Title Opening:

0.08- Alfred Hitchcocks's
0.12- Film Title- Psycho
0.24- Vera Miles
0.28- John Gavin
0.32- Co Starring Martin Balsam and John McIntire
0.38- Simon OakLand
0.48- Janet Leigh as Marion Crane
0.56- Screenplay by Joseph Stefano
etc..
This is just the first 1 minute of the opening titles for Pyscho.

Pyscho Opening:

First day of filming

Filming for our opening:

Myself and my group had our first go at filming for our Thriller opening this week.
The location was set (mise-en-scene) At Olamide's house where we filmed the bedroom scene. This scene included on of our actors Einas who plays the role of a girl who is diagnosed with schizophrenia. In this scene we discover that she goes mad and she starts to hear voices in her head telling her to do evil things. By using all of the equiptment from media which consisted of a: Tripod, Camera, Torch.
We used the torch, shined it on her and shook it rapidly to create the effect of her going mad and going out of control.
It was a sucessful day of filming and we were able to get it done quickly and efficiently.
We plan to film more scenes for our opening next week as it will be our last week to film.

Build Up To Pitch

We've only got a couple of days to we need to pitch our idea to the panel and our class, and I'm starting to get quite stressed!
Me and my group has thrown loads of ideas around and we've been told they're too 'cliche' and 'complicated', which was quite a knock back...
But we've finally got an idea that we're happy with! We're going to need quite a few shots and pictures but I think we'll get through it.

I've had an idea for a costume too!
I had this shirt made for me in year 8 when I had to do a thriller performance and I remembered that I still had it. I think this will be perfect for our main character to wear.

Also there's going to be a part in our movie (which I can't reveal yet) but I took a picture of a part of my bedroom because I think it'll be perfect for a natural environment.
